Nowadays lots of the stuff I write ( for example the posts to this blog) is written directly into Safari, my web browser, rather than a word processor. The problem is, Safari doesn&#8217;t have automatic spell checking. I discovered a great little bookmarklet called &#8216;After the Deadline&#8217; which adds spellchecking to any web browser. <span id="more-835"></span></p>
<p>(A bookmarklet is a small piece of code that looks like a bookmark but is more than a bookmark!)</p>
<p> <a href="javascript:(function()%20{%20if%20(typeof%20AtD%20!=%20'undefined')%20return;%20var%20loadresource%20=%20function(tag,%20link,%20type,%20breakc)%20{%20var%20d%20=%20new%20Date();%20var%20breakCache%20=%20breakc%20?%20'?ver='%20+%20d.getMonth()%20+%20'.'%20+%20d.getYear()%20+%20'.5'%20:%20'';%20var%20res%20=%20document.createElement(tag);%20res.type%20=%20type;%20if%20(tag%20==%20'link')%20{%20res.href%20=%20link%20+%20breakCache;%20res.rel%20=%20'stylesheet';%20}%20else%20{%20res.src%20=%20link%20+%20breakCache;%20}%20document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(res);%20};%20if%20(typeof%20jQuery%20==%20'undefined')%20{%20loadresource('SCRIPT',%20'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3/jquery.min.js',%20'text/javascript',%20false);%20setTimeout(function()%20{%20if%20(typeof%20jQuery%20!=%20'undefined')%20jQuery.noConflict();%20else%20setTimeout(this,%201000);%20},%201000);%20}%20loadresource('SCRIPT',%20'http://static.afterthedeadline.com/atd-jquery/scripts/jquery.atd.textarea.js',%20'text/javascript',%20true);%20loadresource('SCRIPT',%20'http://static.afterthedeadline.com/atd-jquery/scripts/csshttprequest.js',%20'text/javascript',%20true);%20loadresource('link',%20'http://static.afterthedeadline.com/atd-jquery/css/atd.css',%20'text/css',%20true);%20setTimeout(function()%20{%20if%20(typeof%20AtD%20!=%20'undefined'%20&#038;&#038;%20typeof%20jQuery%20!=%20'undefined')%20{%20AtD.rpc_css%20=%20'http://www.polishmywriting.com/bookmarklet/proxycss.php?data=';%20jQuery('textarea').addProofreader();%20}%20else%20{%20setTimeout(this,%201000);%20}%20},%201000);%20})()">Click on this link, and while keeping the mouse button down, drag it to your Safari toolbar</a> (rename it something easy like spellcheck). </p>
<p>You can find the original bookmarklet <a href="http://www.afterthedeadline.com/download.slp?platform=Bookmarklet">here</a>.</p>
<p>How to use:<br />
Click the new &#8220;spellcheck&#8221; link on your toolbar. A little symbol with a tick will appear at each textbox &#8211; click it to do a spellcheck.</p>
