For some unknown reason my address book (Snow Leopard) lost its synchronisation with my iPhone. Firstly it stopped updating things, and then it got to the point where I lost all the contacts off my iPhone (thankfully I had them backed up) and it would no longer sync between my iPhone and iPod and Mac computer.

I talked with Apple, they couldn’t help. I spend over and hour with the mobileme chat line, and subsequent e-mails and in the end I gave up.

This week I came across this great article which fixed everything! If you’re having issues with Apple address book definitely give this a try.

The children have a new iPod touch for Christmas and you want them to be able to download free apps, without being able to download paid apps to your credit card. Here is how to set up a free account without a credit card. If you want to, you can recharge this account with an iTunes voucher.

itunes-upgrade-option

Apple had just released itunes plus which has two main benefits, both are great.

1. All the songs are now going to be DRM free, so you can play them with different software and players.

2. The bitrate has now doubled so that the music is better quality. (I suggested the itunes bitrate was too low here, and how to get round it, but now apple have ‘fixed’ it for downloaded songs.)

There is a great feature on the itunes store home page that will automatically (for a fee) upgrade all your songs!

To find  it you go to ‘quick links’ on the right, and click on ‘Upgrade my Library’.

Itunes upgrade songs

It will give you the option of deleting your old library or moving it to the desktop.  I suggest you keep it, because if you ever need the lower quality 128 kbps songs (eg to listen to on your ipod), the original downloaded ones will be better quality than if you re-compress the new 256kbps down to 128.

Thankfully I have only purchased 20 songs from itunes, so the fee was just $10.

battery

With so many different battery types, how do you know whether to recharge them or flatten them every time you use them, and does it matter?

It does matter. Some batteries can be damaged if you use them wrongly, others have a reduced life. Here’s a quick guide.

Well, I’m on a bit of a run here with my new samsung D900 mobile phone, the latest being what are the best settings to compress a movie to watch on my phone. The phones resolution is 320×240, which I think is similar to an ipod. I use Handbrake to encode DVD’s, you can also use these settings to export from Quicktime pro, but Handbrake is free.
