Well it seems that OSX won’t recognise any Samsung phones. A bit disappointing given their TV adds on how Macintosh is friendly with everything! I rang Samsung and they said ‘we don’t support macintosh’

So to get my samsung D900i working on OSX I had to do this: (I’m not suggesting you do it for whatever reasons like you might sue me if it doesn’t work, but it worked for me).

1. Download this file: D900iUSB.pkg.zip

2. Run it

3. Put some memory in the mobile phone miniSD slot because it is only the external memory that the phone uses as a USB drive. (I got 2G for $25 so it’s pretty cheap)

4. Go into the USB settings on the phone and set it to USB mass media, not USB modem.

3. Plug in your Samsung D900i and wow, it mounts AND itunes now recognises it and imports the photos automatically!

Note: if you want to SYNC your samsung D900i that is a separate issue, look here.

Do I open a terminal bash, just paste the line and save?
Or do I run a new command before restarting ?

    1. You need to have some memory in the mobile phone miniSD slot because it is only the external memory that the phone uses as a USB drive. (I got 2G for $25 so it’s pretty cheap)
    2. Also you need to go into the USB settings on the phone and set it to USB mass media, not USB modem.
Let me know how that goes!

I’m a bit ashamed to say, but I can’t find the file to run…
    Help, someone??

  7. Wayne says:

Click on the “D900i.pgk.zip” in the article abov, and it should download to your desktop. Otherwise, try control click and select “save link as” and you can tell it where you want to save the file to.

  8. Fred says:

    Hi,
do you think it can work with another models like Samsung E900 ?
    Someone else tried ?
    thanks

  9. Fred says:

I tried but it does’nt work, first there is no USB tune on E900 it’s automatic,
d’you think it’s possible to change this D900 plug to be able working with E900 ?

  10. Hannah says:

I have tried this with my D900i and wont work? I open the zip, installed it and it doesnt save the program anywhere? As I go through the installation it says it requires 0 bytes of space? Is this right? What am I doing wrong?

  11. Ines says:

will it work on D900? I have a powerbook 10.3.9, and isync does not “see” my phone!
    THANKS!

  12. Sandra says:

I have downloaded the file and installed it but am unable to see my phone in itunes let alone what I’ve installed onmy computer, is there someting else I need to do?

Also Wayne’s suggestion above of changing the setting of the USB on my phone, can anyone help me in finding it on my settings. Oh and do you need the extra memory as sugested by Wayne? Please help me!!!!!!!

    Thank you :)

  13. Rob says:

Hi Had error 17535 come up in the Stuffit window.

How can I get arround this?

  14. Wayne says:

    try downloading it again

  15. wayne says:

    Yes you need extra memory.

This is not how to sync your phone, this is how to mount it as a USB drive. If you want to sync your phone it is a completely different issue. You can sync via bluetooth, you don’t need extra memory, see the separate article. (Do a site search on d900.)

  16. John says:

Great advice, but I don’t have a USB setting in phone Settings menu to change it to USB mass media. Can someone help????

    Thanks.

  17. Will says:

    Hey Wayne,

I seem to have a problem… I have memory in my phones memory card slot and i’ve downloaded D900iUSB.pkg.zip, unzipped it and ran it. I then restarted my computer as the installer told me to. I then plug my phone into the usb and nothing happens… Help?

  18. Will says:

Sorry… I’ve also changed the usb setting to usb mass media.

  19. Wayne says:

    The phone settings are here:

    Menu/Settings/Phone Settings(2)/USB Setting(8)

then select Mass storage, and be sure to press SAVE.

Also, for me it seems that the phone keeps reverting back to Modem so you need to manually set it back to ‘Mass storage’ each time before you plug it into your computer.

  20. Will says:

So does anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

  21. geff says:

how do i get the file to work

  22. Theo says:

I’ve done everything. Memory in the phone, usb setting on mass media, installed driver & restarted. Why won’t it show up as a drive??

  23. Will says:

Ditto… Is this only for 10.4 and later? I’m running 10.3.9.

  24. Will says:

    Where’s Wayne?

  25. wayne says:

Will, I was running it on 10.4, has anyone here used this successfully under 10.3.9 or earlier?

If all else fails you could buy a USB adapter to plug the phone micro SD card into the mac directly.

I don’t use this feature much, the sync feature I use continually!

  26. Keni says:

Wayne, would I be able to import the contents of my message inbox into my mac through the method described above?

If not, would you happen to have any advice on this issue?
    Thanks !

  27. wayne says:

No when you mount it as a USB drive it just imports the photos into iphoto.
When you sync it, it syncs contacts and calendars, but not messages as far as I can see.

  28. [...] Note: if you want to mount your samsung D900i as a USB drive that is a separate issue, look here. [...]

  29. Keni says:

    I see.

Any suggestion on how I should go about sync/downloading my messages to my mac.

  30. Trin says:

    Wayne,

I have samsung sgh-e590 and I’d love to be able to do the same thing with it. Where didi that zip file came from? Can I get a patch for samsung sgh-e590 as well?

I kin of lie that hone but the no apple compatibility was a bummer. will be great to be able to fix this

Thanks in advance to anyone how can help here

    Trin

  31. Trin says:

looks like i need a new keyboard too ;) that one is skipping keystrokes …

  32. flo says:

    hi wayne,
i have the same question like in the comment before. Will your patch work with the sgh-e590?
Waiting for your answer, Best regards,

    Flo

  33. Rob says:

Very nice! Program also works fine for the samsung soul U900

  34. wayne says:

If you want to get the sgh-e590 or other samsung phone going, get ‘USB prober’ (comes with dev tools on all OSX installations).
    Run USB prober.
    Plug in the phone,
    Hit the refresh button.
Look for the entry that has your phone
    Find the line that says:
Device VendorID/ProductID: 0×05AC/0×0204 (Blah Blah phone company)
Email me the Device Vendor ID/Product ID. (eg 0×05AC/0×0204)
I’ll see what I can do.

  35. leong says:

    hey wayne,
usb prober can only be found on the apple developer’s site? and it will cost my powerbook memory 1G which i cant afford.

any other way for my mac to recognise the e590? before i get the conventional card reader?

  36. wayne says:

Go to about this mac in your file menu.

    Click on more info.

Click on USB in the left window.

Select your phone in the top in the right window and down the bottom there should be an entry that says product ID and vendor ID.

I will try and write an entry on how to make these drivers yourself.

  37. Gonzo says:

here is wht system profiler tells me:
