I’ve started using Google Sheets a lot lately.  It’s a spreadsheet similar to Apple Numbers or Microsoft Excel but the great advantage is you can share it with other people online and they don’t need any particular piece of software to be able to access it. Google sheets is not an application for your computer,  it is a website. This means in order to access one of your Google sheets you need to launch a web browser such as Safari or Chrome, and then go to the Google sheets website.  If you use Google Sheets a lot  it can be a bit tedious trying to access it. You can make a link straight to Google Sheets on your desktop or dock so that you can access it more easily. The way to do this is make a bookmark to the website from within chrome, then drag the bookmark from your bookmark folder to your desktop, then drag this link from your desktop into the dock.   To find out how to do this step-by-step read on.

If you live in Australia and you have a pre-paid Telstra Plan you can use your spare credit to make purchases.  And by spare credit, I mean the entire amount that you top up your phone with each month.  For example, I am on a $30 a month prepaid Telstra plan. I get $700  worth of calls plus  3 GB of data, Yet, at the end of the much I still have that $30 in my Telstra account, and  I can use the entire $30 to buy movies with for ‘free’.  It sound strange  I know but that’s how it works.  It only works on Android phones. It does not work on an iPhone.  But there is a way to get the best of both worlds…

I will switch if something better comes along.  At Christmas time I had a play with my cousin’s Samsung Galaxy S6. It was very nice. It’s the first time I’ve considered switching to Android.   I know I am flirting with the enemy here but I was wondering whether it might be time to do a series on switching from iOS to Android?  I reached out to Samsung. Read on to see how they responded!

Apple has changed the way calendars sync in Mavericks. Here’s how to sync your Apple Calendar App with an existing Google calendar.

You can’t use an iCloud based calendar to sync with Google.  You need to start from Google and go the other way.  Apple can see the gmail calendar but not the other way round.

Here is how to access any of your Gmail contacts from the Apple OSX Address Book . I personally don’t think this is a great feature  because I like to keep all my contacts in one place – Apple’s address book. But if you have contacts in your online gmail account and want them on your OSX address book, this might be handy.  Continue reading ⟩
